general24 April 2026Administrateur

The Yaoundé 1st District Municipality resonated on March 6, 2026, with a large-scale walk organized by Mayor Jean Marie ABOUNA, in an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, solidarity, and civic engagement. This activity was part of the girls' development program, championed with determination by the Municipal Executive he leads.

From the early hours of the morning, nearly 2,500 walkers turned out to participate in this collective effort, organized around the theme: "Empowering the girls of Yaoundé 1st means building a strong municipality." This clear message highlights the importance of empowering and supporting girls in building a balanced and prosperous society.

The walk saw remarkable participation from the district's active members. Alongside the Mayor, the Sub-Prefect of the Yaoundé 1st District, Municipal Councilors, municipal staff, and numerous social actors committed to promoting the well-being of young girls were also present.

The event was also marked by the active participation of people with disabilities, who came to demonstrate their support for this inclusive initiative. Young girls from all social backgrounds in the district also took part in the march, transforming the event into a true symbol of unity, cohesion, and solidarity.

Throughout the march, the participants displayed palpable determination, reflecting the widespread support of the population for the vision championed by the Municipal Executive. Through this sporting and civic activity, the Yaoundé 1st District Council reaffirms its commitment to promoting the empowerment of young girls, seen as a key driver of local development.

Beyond physical exercise, this walk was also intended as a platform for raising awareness and mobilizing the community around issues related to the education, guidance, and empowerment of young girls.

Through this unifying initiative, Mayor Jean Marie ABOUNA and his municipal team intend to continue concrete actions in support of strong, responsible young women who are fully involved in building a dynamic and forward-looking community.
