A one-day awareness and expertise event on sustainable waste management, led by HYSACAM, UN-Habitat and environmental NGOs. 200 seats.
The Yaoundé 1st District Council, in partnership with HYSACAM, UN-Habitat and the NGO Cameroun Écologie, is hosting on Tuesday 28 April 2026 a seminar day on sustainable household waste management.
Target audience
- neighbourhood association presidents;
- neighbourhood chiefs and notables;
- primary and secondary school teachers;
- business leaders of the district;
- anyone interested in environmental issues.
Programme
- 8:30 AM — Welcome and coffee;
- 9:00 AM — Mayor's opening address and overview of the issues;
- 9:30 AM — Opening keynote "The state of waste management in Central Africa" by the UN-Habitat representative;
- 10:30 AM — Break;
- 11:00 AM — Panel "Sorting waste: the Yaoundé 1 pilot experience" with HYSACAM and the Bastos and Cité Verte neighbourhoods;
- 12:30 PM — Complimentary lunch;
- 2:00 PM — Hands-on workshops in small groups (composting, waste reduction at source, plastics recycling);
- 3:30 PM — Wrap-up and round table "What can we do in our neighbourhood?";
- 4:30 PM — Closing and signing of a civic engagement charter.
